Collection and Use of Video and Image Data from Vehicle-mounted Cameras and Sensors

Sony Honda Mobility Inc. collects video and image data on the environment surrounding the vehicle ("Driving Environment Data") through cameras, sensors, and other equipment installed in the vehicle (collectively, "Onboard Cameras"). Please read the following for details of our data collection and use by the Onboard Cameras.

• Start date: January, 2024
• Number of vehicles: 15 vehicles
• Areas of operation: Throughout Japan
• Data collected by us (data that may include personal information only): Driving Environment Data captured and collected by the Onboard Cameras
• Processing purposes:
  • Research and development of autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (including use as AI learning datasets)
  • Planning, development, provision and quality improvement of our products and services using the Driving Environment Data

We may be able to identify the face of an individual or the license plate number of a vehicle from the Driving Environment Data captured by the Onboard Cameras, we will not use the Driving Environment Data for the purpose of identifying who individuals are.

• Retention periods: The Driving Environment Data we collect will be retained until the purposes described above are achieved and it is no longer necessary to use such data. We will delete the collected data after six years from the date of collection unless we need to retain it.
• Transfer of Driving Environment Data to third parties: We may share the Driving Environment Data collected by us to third parties in the following cases:
  • We may share the data with our service providers such as software companies and AI development companies, data collection service providers and annotation service providers for research and development of autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems.
  • We may share the data to third parties when permitted by applicable laws and regulations.
• Security Measures: In addition to the security measures described in the "Security Measures" section in our Privacy Policy, we will take the following measures regarding the handling of Driving Environment Data:
  • Prohibition of searching specific individuals, including pedestrians or license plates.
  • Anonymization of the Driving Environment Data when providing it to third parties in light of the processing purposes.
